Nevertheless, (Initial Thoughts)

If I've said this once, I've said it a thousand times before, I love romance dramas. Granted, they're even better with some comedy in there but there's just something about seeing a love story unfold that really plays to my interests. Dramas of this genre aren't uncommon and something else that's becoming increasingly common are K-dramas based on webtoons, which have started to become more prolific in recent years. What do you get when you combine the two? Well, you actually get a lot of possibilities but I'm specifically talking about  Nevertheless,  (or directly translated to I Know But, ), based on the webtoon of the same name. Starring  Han So-hee  ( Abyss ,  The World of the Married ) as female lead YOO NA-BI and  Song Kang  ( Love Alarm ,  Navillera ) as male lead PARK JAE-EON, this Netflix Original tells the tale of a university romance between a woman who no longer believes in love and a man who doesn't believe in relationships. Red Velvet - Queendom

On 23 December 2019, they released the massively popular and critically acclaimed Psycho. Two days later, on Christmas no less, a freak accident sent their main vocal into a year-long hiatus. Not only that, the group's leader would be embroiled in a scandal that threatened to mar her career. Throughout all these ordeals, fans and detractors alike wondered if they would ever make a proper return as a full group, although different members would have sub-group or solo debuts. Even after the dust settled on all their issues, there was almost no news of a comeback but finally, after a wait that lasted more than a year, Red Velvet has finally made their triumphant return with their sixth EP "Queendom" and their title track of the same name. It's been too long so let's not delay any longer and dive right in.  Meaning : At its core, Queendom is a message of (mostly female-centric) positivity (makes sense, they're a girl group). The chorus has various members singing ...

What If...? (Initial Thoughts)

It's no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is starting to fully embrace the multiverse, especially with the release of Disney+ series like WandaVision   and Loki . Most importantly, the latter ended with the female Loki variant Sylvie killing He Who Remains, thereby splintering the Sacred Timeline and creating countless timeline branches, which will no doubt lead to a ton of multiversal shenanigans. Join us as we take a look at the chaos of the newly formed multiverse through the lens of our next Disney+ outing and the MCU's first animated product, What If...? . Let's dive in. INITIAL THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS (SPOILER ALERT) In order to comprehend what this new series is supposed to represent or showcase with regards to the MCU, we have to first understand the source material it's based off. "What If" stories were basically Marvel Comics' way of retelling key moments/events that occurred in their mainstream continuity (Earth-616) and in the inaug...

Racket Boys (Series Retrospect)

Sports dramas are something that I've rarely watched, generally speaking the dramas I watch are romcoms with the occasional thriller thrown in there. That's why I'm pleasantly surprised by Racket Boys , the very first true sports drama I've watched. Despite the large ensemble cast, with most of the lead actors being really young, and juggling a bunch of plotlines, this extremely heartwarming drama has totally stolen my heart and left this nice warm feeling inside me. Without further ado, let's take a look at this absolutely wonderful drama.  SERIES RETROSPECT AND REVIEW (SPOILER ALERT) It's undeniable that the drama's central plot element is sports, specifically badminton but at its core, this is a coming-of-age story as well as a story that revolves around family. It could've very easily been a drama that focused purely on our characters' badminton adventures and have the bulk of the drama be their matches but no, the director and screenwriters have...

The Suicide Squad (Review)

5 years ago we got  Suicide Squad , the DC Extended Universe (DCEU)'s third entry and an ensemble film focusing on the antihero team of the same name. That film was less than stellar to say the least and is widely considered to be one of the worst superhero/comic book films in recent years, with the theatrical release feeling like a poorly edited mashup of multiple trailers. While there's more to the production story (such as studio interference from Warner Bros.), the generally panned  Suicide Squad  was still able to spawn a spinoff in last year's Birds of Prey  and of course, the main topic of this post, a sequel in The Suicide Squad . While technically a follow-up as well as currently the most recent film in the DCEU's chronological timeline, this film behaves somewhat like a soft reboot and generally ignores the events of previous films. With an almost brand new cast of characters, let's see how this standalone sequel compares to the original.  REVIEW (SPOI...

Weeekly - Holiday Party

After completing their "We" trilogy in March and releasing promotional single 7days Tension in May, Weeekly has made their comeback after just slightly over 2 months. People who know me know that Play M Entertainment's rookie girl group is one of my favourites and all their titles have been fire (even when simply advertising Davich Optical's contact lenses), with their cute and youthful yet fresh and unique schoolgirl concept stealing the hearts of Daileees (fandom name) and casual listeners alike. With their fourth and latest EP "Play Game: Holiday", the group generally maintains their signature vibe whilst injecting in a dose of maturity, so let's take a look at their title track Holiday Party.  Meaning : If previous title After School was about having fun after school, Holiday Party is about having a party during the holiday (no duh). In some ways, the latter song could be seen as a continuation of the former, both lyrically and conceptually, especial...
