DREAMCATCHER - Odd Eye

They released their first album and their fifth EP as an incomplete group of six but after a long wait, we finally see the return of the complete septet DREAMCATCHER with their sixth EP "Dystopia: Road to Utopia", which dropped on Tuesday. Chinese member Handong is back after her participation in last year's Youth With You season 2 and InSomnias (the group's fandom name) couldn't be happier. DREAMCATCHER is one of the most unique girl groups around, being one of, if not the only existing girl group to adopt a rock and metal sound. Their concept originally revolved around each member representing a phobia or a "nightmare" (eg. Siyeon and Handong represent claustrophobia and scopophobia respectively), although they've moved past that idea after the ending of the previous "storyline" known as the Nightmare Quartet.  With Odd Eye, we're getting the final addition to the group's Dystopia Era trilogy and it's actually one of the best ...

Run On (Initial Thoughts)

2020 was a great year for drama fanatics, with a plethora of Netflix Original K-dramas being released. As we move into 2021, it'll be no different as humanity undergoes a drastic evolution in our media consumption methods. A number of these dramas started late last year and will finish airing this year, with  Run On  being one of them. Starring  Shin Se-kyung  ( A Girl Who Sees Smells ,  The Bride of Habaek ) as female lead OH MI-JOO and ZE:A's  Im Si-wan  ( The King in Love ,  Hell Is Other People ) as male lead KI SEON-GYEOM, this romcom revolves around the blooming romance between a former celebrity sprinter who aims to become a sports agent and a feisty subtitle translator. Let's dive in. INITIAL THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS (SPOILER ALERT) Let me tell you that my biggest takeaway from this drama so far is how hilarious some of the moments are in episode 1. Man was cackling at some of these scenes and the humour is in no small part due to our heroine...

The Uncanny Counter (Series Retrospect)

When I started watching  The Uncanny Counter , I wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into. Initially I was expecting an almost completely fantasy drama of the superhero-like Counters going around vanquishing evil spirits and while we did get a lot of that, this drama was so much more. At it's core, this drama was a well-written mystery thriller that delved into the sickening world of political corruption, all while following the fantastical undertones that came with the supernatural nature of our heroes. While the screenwriters focused a lot on the evil spirits terrorising the living realm, equal emphasis was placed on the unsavoury characters that will do anything for political power, with our leads struggling against both parties. This culminates in this drama's masterful execution and compelling story. Let's dive in.  SERIES RETROSPECT AND REVIEW (SPOILER ALERT) A good drama has many aspects that keep viewers invested. Interesting plot elements, amazing port...

WandaVision (Initial Thoughts)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has changed the entertainment landscape forever, giving us one of the most masterfully crafted shared cinematic universes of all time, culminating in 2019's Avengers: Endgame , ending the decade-long Infinity Saga with a bang (I know Spider-Man: Far From Home  was officially Phase 3's last film but in terms of the overarching story, we know which film ended it all). The MCU's future looks bright moving on to Phase 4 and beyond, with Marvel releasing tons of TV series on Disney+ to tie in to the films, with the first of these series being WandaVision . This wouldn't be the first time that the MCU has incorporated TV series, considering how we've had Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. , The Runaways , Cloak & Dagger and the various Netflix series, but those previous series only ended up making reference to the films and not actually crossing over, with the films practically ignoring the existence of the TV series.  With the inception of th...

Cherry Bullet - Love So Sweet

After slightly over 5 months, FNC Entertainment's resident rookie girl group Cherry Bullet has returned with their first ever EP "Cherry Rush", which dropped yesterday. Being one of the few groups that focus on opposing concepts as per as their group name, Cherry Bullet is undoubtedly going with their "Cherry" aspect this time round, taking on a more innocent and cutesy sound. With their previous comeback Aloha Oe having been a summery song that was super catchy and fun to listen to, let's see how Love So Sweet compares. Meaning : If it wasn't clear enough by the name of the title track, this is a love song. As the song goes, the members sing about falling in love with someone, and wanting to give them a love that's "sweeter than candy" and "chocolate", with the lyrics describing just how heart-fluttering this whole experience is. It's not a new concept in K-Pop, love songs in this vein are commonplace. Love So Sweet stays tru...

The Uncanny Counter (Initial Thoughts)

The Uncanny Counter (or directly translated to Amazing So Mun ) is another Netflix Original K-drama that began airing last year and revolves around a group of mystically-powered beings known as Counters who hunt down evil spirits who've escaped the afterlife and are running rampant in the living realm to prey on human souls. Based on a webtoon of the same name, think of our heroes as Grim Reapers meeting superheroes and you get a pretty good idea of this drama's direction. Starring  Kim Se-jeong  ( School 2017 ,  I Wanna Hear Your Song ) as female lead DO HA-NA and Jo Byung-gyu  ( Sky Castle , Hot Stove League ) as male lead SO MUN, this fantasy thriller drama is sure to draw in a lot of viewers and keep us on the edge of our seats. Let's dive in. INITIAL THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS (SPOILER ALERT) Our titular hero So Mun is a high schooler who became crippled after getting into a car accident 7 years ago, an accident which killed his parents. It's made very apparent to us...

Live On (Series Retrospect)

There are few things more disappointing than perfectly aligning your watching schedule to coincide with the airing of a drama's final episode without missing a day, only for the broadcast to be pushed back a whole week. That's literally what happened with  Live On  and man was so tilted when it happened. That's ok though because this whole drama was so worth the watch. For something that I sort of flip-flopped between wanting to watch it or not before I actually started, I was genuinely surprised by the topics that we touched on here and I truly wasn't expecting such quality. Let's dive in.  SERIES RETROSPECT AND REVIEW (SPOILER ALERT) I do want to preface this by saying that I'll attempt a far more structured approach with this review and this is primarily because of the heavy themes covered throughout the drama, themes that warrant more of an essay-like format. Without further ado, let's start.  Introduction : It's very apparent that this drama is very...
